Irma Zancker, née David, born 25.6.1901 in Altona, deported to Theresienstadt on 23.6.1943, further deported to Auschwitz on 28.10.1944, murdered there
Sierichstraße 46 (Hamburg-North, Winterhude)
Irma David was the daughter of Martha David, née Brach and the sister of Fanny David. In 1923 she married Johannes Peter Claus Asmus Zancker. They had one son: Claus Zancker (born 17 Jan 1929). The marriage was divorced in 1930, and the son continued to live with his mother.
After the divorce, Irma Zancker worked as a factory educator in the Hamburg workshops for the disabled. In 1933 she was dismissed because of her Jewish origin. After a long period of unemployment, she obtained a job as a stenotypist with the Jewish community in 1936.
In 1938, according to the address book, she still lived in her apartment at Sierichstraße 46, later she moved to Haynstraße 5, where her mother and sister also lived. Together with them, she was quartered by the Gestapo at Ostmarkstraße 24 (now Hallerstraße again) at the beginning of April 1942 and at Beneckestraße 4 from September 1942.
June 23, 1943, all three were deported to Theresienstadt. After the death of their mother, the sisters were deported to Auschwitz on October 28, 1944, and perished there on an unknown date.
Claus Zancker was rescued in 1939 with a Kindertransport to England. There he attended secondary school and learned a commercial trade. In 1947 he took British citizenship and in 1952 changed his name to Peter David Gordon Sinclair. From 1959 he lived in Scotland.
