Clean a Stolperstein
Is there a Stolperstein on your street? Or have you noticed one that has become so dark that it is difficult to read? With just a few simple steps, you can help keep the memory visible.
The brass of Stolpersteine tarnishes over time. Regular cleaning, whether on your own or together with others, brings the surface back to a shine.
What you need:
a scouring sponge or abrasive cleaning pad,
household gloves,
a standard metal cleaner,
some water for rinsing,
a cloth for wiping.
How to clean a Stolperstein:
First, remove any loose dirt from the Stolperstein.
Apply the cleaning product and, if necessary, leave it on for a short time.
Carefully polish the brass surface with the sponge until it shines again.
Rinse the stone with water and wipe away any residue with a cloth.
And please don't worry: There is no wrong way to clean a Stolperstein! Every cleaning helps keep a person and their life story legible and visible.
