Educational Materials

Stolpersteine offer many opportunities to explore both the past and the future. These educational materials support teachers, educators and others working with children and young people in exploring the stories of the people commemorated by the Stolpersteine, remembering them and keeping their stories alive.

The materials draw on local life stories, linking them to historical sources and specific places in Hamburg. Through individual biographies, complex issues such as persecution, exclusion, racism, forced displacement and denunciation become more accessible and tangible.

The resources are designed for different age groups. Materials for children aged nine and above offer an introduction to Stolpersteine and the stories behind them. For young people aged 14 and above, biographical materials provide an opportunity to explore in greater depth the lives of those who were persecuted and the history of National Socialism.

The materials are suitable for use in the classroom and in non-formal education settings. They include activities, historical sources and background information, and encourage learners to ask questions, carry out their own research and connect history with the places where they live.
