Like their son, even the parents, Julius and Henriette, called Henny, Masse, were born in Hamburg. By occupation, Julius Masse was a broker in the area of "drugs,” i.e., probably drugstore articles. Isestrasse 26 was the last residential address of the family in Hamburg, after they had moved several times. As early as 1933, the Masses did not return to Hamburg from a journey abroad.
In Amsterdam, they resided on Kaisergracht, until Nazi persecution caught up with them in their exile as well following the occupation of the Netherlands by German troops. Only three days after their deportation from the Netherlands, they were murdered in the Sobibor extermination camp.
